Welcome to better home monitoring with the new Koda Motion-Activated Light with Camera with exclusive UltraSense™ technology!

Make it simple. Whether you’re at home or on-the-go, the Koda LightCam will stay alert to keep you updated on the events happening around your home. Or if you just want to check in from a remote location.

Exclusive UltraSense™ 2-Step Motion Detection Technology

Two-step motion sensing technology for superior motion analysis to only send you important notifications, not when leaves are moving. By intelligently identifying the object and movement, UltraSense™ uses advanced algorithms to pick out the activity you care about and send notifications to your phone via 2.4GHz WiFi network. Traditional motion-triggered security camera using PIR infrared sensor can be falsely triggered by unimportant events such as blowing curtains, light changes, or moving shadows.

Monitor Your Home at All Times

See crisp videos in real-time or review missed events* with 1080p HD and night vision. To make sure you never miss anything important, Koda LightCam features 3 seconds of pre-event and 7 seconds of post-event recording (10 seconds total) to capture the full event, making sure you see the event before the motion is detected not someone's back as they are leaving.

Direct Wire or Plug-in Power Options

Whether you need to replace an existing outdoor light or need to plug into an outlet, the Koda LightCam comes with both hardwire and plug options so you have greater flexibility for installation around your home.

Ultra-Bright Floodlight with Audible and Visual Alarms

The smart motion sensor simultaneously triggers an ultra-bright LED light, begins recording video*, and sends you an alert so you know what matters most to you is being monitored. Activate the Siren feature in the app to alerts neighbors and unwanted visitors with a 90db siren and a flashing red status light.

Advanced Controls in Your Hands

With the Koda app you can activate the lights, sound the alarm, talk and listen to the visitors. You can even customize the sensitivity to fit different environments.

A Smart Home Surveillance System

Keep track of what's going on around your home, and feel rest assured you won't miss a thing. The app's Live View interface supports multi-camera access so you can monitor all Koda cameras from one single view.

*Reviewing automatically saved, motion-triggered videos requires a cloud subscription plan "Koda Vault".

General Questions

How does the Koda LightCam work?

Our approach to designing this product was to make it as easy as possible to use. It is for outdoor installation at a location that is either replacing an existing light fixture or close enough to an outdoor outlet to plug into that outlet. Our plug-in and hardwire flexible powering options accommodates the different installation location. Customization and viewing the camera is done through your Apple or Android smartphone device. Don’t forget, you will also need a stable 2.4GHz WiFi network to reach the location your Koda LightCam will be installed in order send notifications, capture and send events, and to view live.
Please see this video on some of the features offered in action.

Does the Koda LightCam require WiFi connection to work?

Yes, 2.4GHz WiFi with minimum upload and download speeds of 2 Mbps. To test your WiFi speed, simply be on your 2.4GHz WiFi network at the location you wish to install at and type “WiFi speed test” in your web browser. Follow the instructions from the site to test your WiFi speeds.

Do I need an existing junction box to install the Koda LightCam?

One of the great features about the Koda LightCam is the two powering options for flexible installation. Each Koda LightCam has a power supply cord already pre-installed to plug into an outdoor-rated outlet. Or if you want to install by direct wiring instead, follow the simple steps to remove the power supply cord for installation to replace an existing junction box.

Can my events be saved to a network video recorder (NVR) device?

No, events captured are saved to the cloud for a small fee or they can be manually saved to your smartphone if you’re viewing live.

Do I need a hub to use the Koda LightCam?

No, the Koda LightCam connects directly to your home’s 2.4GHz WiFi network without having to go through a hub.

How long is the power supply cord on the Koda LightCam?

6 ft / 1.83 m

Is the Koda LightCam battery powered?

No, the Koda LightCam must be plugged to a wall outlet or hardwired to an existing junction box running on AC power.

Can I run an ethernet cable to the Koda LightCam?

No, the Koda LightCam does not have an ethernet port to power (Power over Ethernet) or connect to the network.

Koda App Walkthrough
Always contact a certified electrician if you are not sure how to directly wire the Koda LightCam to your existing light fixture or if you are not comfortable installing it yourself.

Can I use an extension cord with the Koda LightCam? [Plug-in Install]

It is better to plug directly to a wall outlet than an extension cord as the plug from the Koda LightCam can slowly pull away from the extension cord connector over time, exposing the plug to the weather elements. If you must use an extension cord, make sure it is outdoor-rated and suitable for the power requirements of the Koda LightCam.

Do I need to use sealant or caulk around my Koda LightCam’s power box?

It is best to use sealant or caulk to prevent water from entering the junction box when hardwiring. It is not mandatory, but highly recommended if your Koda LightCam is not installed under a roof or awning.

Can I mount the Koda LightCam on a surface other than wood, stucco, brick, or concrete?

We do not recommend mounting the Koda LightCam on any surfaces outside wood, stucco, brick, or concrete.

Is the Koda LightCam compatible with my Amazon Alexa, Google Home, Apple Siri, Samsung Bixby, etc. devices?

No. The Koda LightCam currently does not support those third-party devices.

If I buy a new smartphone, can I still access my Koda LightCam account?

Yes. Download the Koda app from your new smartphone’s Apple iOS or Google Play stores and enter your account information at login to access your account.

If you have snapshots or videos that were saved manually, you must download the events you want to save to your new smartphone to access in the future.

My router only has 5GHz WiFi, can I still use the Koda LightCam?

No. The Koda LightCam is only compatible with 2.4GHz WiFi running 802.11 b/g/n protocols.

Can I use the Koda LightCam outside the U.S.?

The Koda LightCam is intended to be used in the U.S. right now. We may offer the product or a variation of the product in other countries later.

Technical / WiFi Help

I'm having difficulty pairing my Koda LightCam to my smartphone.

  1. Press the Pairing/Reset button on the LightCam for 8 seconds for a factory reset – status light will flash solid yellow. It will take about 8 seconds to complete.
  2. While that’s resetting, open the Koda app > tap LightCam > tap “+” (upper right corner) > tap Next on the next three screens.
  3. At this point the Koda LightCam should be alternating blue and red status lights. If not, hold the pairing button for 5 seconds and release for the Koda LightCam to alternative blue and red lights.
  4. In the app, tap “Go to WiFi Settings” to go to the Koda app permissions page > tap “ Settings” (upper left corner) > tap “Wi-Fi” near the top of iPhone settings page > tap “KODA-LM01-xx” (it may take a few seconds to find) > once there is a checkmark next to “KODA-LM01-xx”, go back to the Koda app.
  5. Select or enter a name for your device.
  6. Select network and enter WiFi network password. Tap “Connect with LightCam”.
  7. LightCam should be solid green at this point.

If you own an Android phone with an operating system of Android 9.0 or newer, you may need to turn your mobile data off to finish pairing.

  1. Go to your Android’s device Settings > tap Connections > tap Data Usage > toggle Mobile Data to off and confirm turning it off.
  2. Go back to the Koda LightCam app and complete the setup.
  3. Once the setup is complete, go back into your Android settings mentioned in step 1 and switch the Mobile Data back to on.

My WiFi seems slow at the installation location. / My WiFi does not reach the installation location.

The installation location may be too far from the router or there is interference. Consider installing a WiFi extender near the installation location or move your router closer to the installation location. When purchasing a WiFi extender, purchasing from the same manufacturer as your router is recommended as the chances of compatibility are higher.

Interference may be caused by:

  • Walls (concrete and metal materials have higher probability of blocking WiFi signal)
  • Mirrors
  • Microwave ovens
  • Wireless speakers
  • Water / fish tanks
  • Satellite
  • Breaker boxes
  • Neighbor’s WiFi
  • Telephones running on 2.4GHz technology
  • Other WiFi dependent products (baby monitors, wireless cameras, etc.)
If you already cannot stream videos smoothly while inside the home with minimum 2 Mbps upload and download speeds, then the issue may be due to your current home router. Purchasing a new router may help in this case.

My home WiFi only runs on 5GHz. Can I still use your Koda LightCam?

No, the Koda LightCam only runs on 2.4GHz. It does not offer dual networks or run on 5GHz network.

Will I receive notifications when I am away (smartphone not connected to my home WiFi network)?

Yes, this requires your smartphone have a data plan with your existing cellular carrier or at the country you are traveling to. Your cellular carrier may charge a fee to use their data plan.

I’m not receiving notifications on my smartphone.

1. Your notifications on your smartphone may be disabled.
Apple iPhone: Go to your iPhone’s device Settings > tap Notifications > tap the KODA app > select Enable Notifications > select the alert type you wish to receive (Lock Screen, Notification Center, and/or Banner).
Android phones: Go to your Android’s device Settings > tap Notifications > enable notifications from the Koda app. Or, go to your Android’s device Settings > tap Apps > tap the KODA app > tap Notifications (under App Settings) > enable notifications.
2. Your motion sensor on your Koda LightCam may be disabled.

Open the Koda app > select LightCam and select your LightCam > tap Camera Settings > adjust the Motion Trigger Range bar based on your preferred motion sensitivity to Shortest, Short, or Longest.

Note: If the Motion Trigger Range bar is set to off, you will not receive motion notification alerts even if it is enabled in your phone’s device settings.

3. Make sure your Koda LightCam firmware is up to date.

Open the Koda app > select LightCam and select your Koda LightCam > tap Device Settings > tap Upgrade, if a new firmware is available for download.

Downloading updated firmware may take a while depending on when you last updated the firmware and WiFi download speeds.

My flood light does not automatically turn off.

If you turned the flood light on from the app, you must manually disable it from the app as well. It will not automatically turn off when you close the app.

If you are not manually enabling the floodlight from the app, then the reason the flood light is staying on is due to motion detected. You can access the Camera Setting to decrease the duration the flood light stays on for and/or decrease the sensitivity by decreasing the distance in the Motion Trigger Range to Shortest.

Do I need WiFi connection to setup or use the Koda LightCam?

Yes, 2.4GHz WiFi connection running minimum 2Mbps upload and download speeds at the installation location is required to use the Koda LightCam.

I can’t access live view from the Koda app.

Make sure power is running to the Koda LightCam and your home router. Common uses such as bandwidth limitations, router settings, and router interference may also cause slow live view response or interference.

Do I need to re-pair the Koda LightCam if I purchase a new router or change the router password?

If you are only changing the network or router and the new network or router is already up and running along with the one your Koda LightCam is already connected to, you can update the network from the Koda app without having to re-pair the Koda LightCam. In most cases, your Koda LightCam will continue to be connected to WiFi even if you change your network password.
If your previous network is not running and wish to change to a new network, follow the directions below.
Open the Koda app > select a Koda LightCam to update > tap Device Settings > tap Change WiFi Network > select the new network and/or enter that network’s password.
If you need to re-pair your Koda LightCam to your phone, hold the Reset button on the back of your Koda LightCam until it flashes solid blue before alternating between blue and red flashing LEDs. It is now ready to be paired.

I cannot pair my Koda LightCam to my smartphone.

Make sure the following checklist applies:

  • You are using a 2.4GHz 802.11 b/g/n WiFi router
  • You have a minimum 2 Mbps upload and download speeds at the installation location. You can use an online speed checker while connected to WiFi at the installation location to check. Type “WiFi speed check” in your smartphone’s browser window to find one suitable for you.
  • Try cycling the power by unplugging and re-plugging the Koda LightCam or by resetting the circuit breaker to the Koda LightCam.
Please contact customer service. We will need to know the brand and model of your router and smartphone, and Koda app version you are using. In some cases, there are parental controls or firewall security enabled on your network preventing the connection. Other issues may include:
  • Compatibility issues with older model WiFi routers.
  • Running the product on captive portal networks. These are typically free WiFi connection hotspots that time out and/or require you to agree to terms of service.
  • Open-source firmware such as DD-WRT, OpenWRT, and Tomato.
  • WiFi router has a limited number of total connected devices that can be connected at the same time.
